What do we believe?
The Holy Bible
Scripture was written by men who were inspired by God. Therefore, it is free from error and serves as God's instruction manual for mankind. We use various translations to make learning more accessible. "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work." 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NKJV) God There is only one true, living God, and He reveals Himself to us as the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. "For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one." 1 John 5:7 (NKJV) Jesus Christ Jesus is the Son of God. Perfect and blameless, He was born to be the sacrifice for our sins. Jesus was crucified on a cross, buried, rose from the dead, and later ascended into Heaven. Serving as our go-between with God, one day He will return to Earth to take His believers to Heaven. "At the crack of dawn on Sunday, the women came to the tomb carrying the burial spices they had prepared. They found the entrance stone rolled back from the tomb, so they walked in. But once inside, they couldn't find the body of the Master Jesus. They were puzzled, wondering what to make of this. Then, out of nowhere it seemed, two men, light cascading over them, stood there. The women were awestruck and bowed down in worship. The men said, 'Why are you looking for the Living One in a cemetery? He is not here, but raised up. Remember how he told you when you were still back in Galilee that he had to be handed over to sinners, be killed on a cross, and in three days rise up?' Then they remembered Jesus' words." Luke 24:1-8 (The Message) "For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time." 1 Timothy 2:5-6 (NASB) |
The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is present in the world today, helping those who have not accepted Jesus to recognize their need for salvation. He also lives in the hearts of Christians, giving them understanding of God's desires and helping them live for Christ. "We have not received the spirit of the world. God has given us His Holy Spirit that we may know about the things given to us by Him." 1 Corinthians 2:12 (NLV) People God created people in His own image. At the time of creation, man was innocent; however, sin entered the world when Adam and Eve disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden. Their sin separated all people from God, and humans still sin today, meaning everyone is in need of salvation. "Then God said, 'Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.'” Genesis 1:26 (NKJV) "For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard." Romans 3:23 (NLT) Salvation Salvation is a free gift to mankind when we repent of our sins, believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and accept Him as Savior and Lord of our life. "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9 (NKJV) The Baptist Faith and Message gives a more detailed account of our beliefs.
